What is an E-max Crown?
E-max crown is one of the most advanced products of aesthetic dentistry, manufactured from lithium disilicate glass ceramic material known as IPS e.max. E-max crowns have the closest light translucency to natural tooth tissue and are a premium coating solution especially preferred for front teeth. At Dentaline Dental Clinic, we produce E-max crowns using digital impressions and CAD/CAM technology, offering each patient perfect fit and aesthetics.
Who is E-max Crown Suitable For?
E-max crown is ideal for those seeking a natural look and high aesthetics. It is preferred in the following situations:
- Discoloration and staining on front teeth
- Front teeth with fractures or large fillings
- Teeth that have undergone root canal treatment and need reinforcement
- Teeth requiring shape and size correction
- Patients with a history of metal allergy
- Front tooth restoration as part of smile design
Properties of E-max Crown
E-max crowns stand apart from other crown types thanks to the unique properties of lithium disilicate glass ceramic material. The most important feature of this material is its light translucency. Natural teeth have a semi-translucent structure and transmit light to a certain extent. E-max ceramic perfectly mimics this property, making the crown indistinguishable from natural teeth.
- Superior aesthetics: Closest appearance to natural tooth tissue
- Light translucency: Semi-translucent structure like natural teeth
- Metal-free: Full ceramic, zero risk of metal allergy
- Biocompatibility: Does not harm gum tissue, tissue-friendly
- 400 MPa flexural strength: Sufficient mechanical strength for front teeth
- Color stability: Does not darken over the years, maintains its color
Treatment Process
E-max crown treatment is completed within 3-5 days at our clinic. During the first session, a detailed examination and shade selection are performed. The exact color tones of your natural teeth are determined using a digital shade measurement device. Then the tooth is prepared for the E-max crown, and a digital impression is taken with a 3D intraoral scanner.
Digital data is transmitted to the laboratory, and the E-max crown is produced using the CAD/CAM system. Computer-aided design ensures micron-level precision during the production process. When the crown is ready, fit, color, and occlusion (bite) checks are performed. Once everything is approved, it is permanently cemented with a special adhesive cement.
Difference Between E-max and Zirconium
Both materials are metal-free, full ceramic crowns, but their areas of use and properties differ. E-max offers superior aesthetics especially for front teeth due to its higher light translucency. Zirconium has higher durability and is preferred for back teeth. The ideal approach is to use E-max for front teeth and zirconium for back teeth. At our clinic, the most suitable material is recommended according to each patient's individual needs.
Care and Lifespan
E-max crowns last 15-20 years with proper care. Maintaining your daily oral care routine is sufficient: brushing twice a day, using dental floss, and professional dental cleaning every 6 months. Avoiding biting very hard foods (nuts, ice) directly will extend the life of your crown.
