What is an Implant Zircon Crown?
An implant zircon crown is a metal-free, full ceramic restoration placed on a dental implant via an abutment (connector). Manufactured from zirconium dioxide (ZrO₂), this crown offers the closest result to natural tooth appearance and perfectly combines aesthetics with durability in implant restorations. At Dentaline Dental Clinic, we produce implant zircon crowns using CAD/CAM technology, delivering perfect fit with digital precision.
Who is Implant Zircon Crown Suitable For?
Implant zircon crowns are preferred in the following situations:
- Patients who have completed implant treatment and are entering the superstructure (crown) phase
- Patients seeking a natural and aesthetic appearance, especially for front teeth
- Patients with a history of metal allergy or those preferring metal-free solutions
- Patients receiving implant-supported restorations as part of smile design
- Patients wanting high aesthetics and durability for both front and back teeth
Properties of Zircon Crown
Implant zircon crowns are a premium restoration material offering the closest aesthetic result to natural teeth:
- Metal-free: No gray-black line at the gum margin, natural pink gum color is preserved
- Light translucency: Semi-translucent structure like natural teeth, indistinguishable results
- High durability: 900-1200 MPa flexural strength provides excellent resistance to chewing forces
- Biocompatibility: Perfect harmony with gum tissue, no irritation or allergic reaction risk
- Color stability: No color change over the years, does not darken or stain
- Low plaque adhesion: Smooth ceramic surface reduces bacterial accumulation
Digital Manufacturing with CAD/CAM
At Dentaline, implant zircon crowns are produced through a fully digital workflow. Digital impressions taken with a 3D intraoral scanner are transferred to CAD (computer-aided design) software. The crown shape, size, and contour are meticulously designed. After design approval, it is milled from a high-density zirconium block using CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) with micron-level precision. Finally, coloring and polishing achieve natural tooth aesthetics.
Treatment Process
1. Implant Check: Osseointegration status is verified clinically and radiographically. If the implant has successfully fused with bone, the prosthetic phase begins.
2. Abutment Selection: A titanium or zirconium abutment is selected based on patient anatomy and crown design. Zirconium abutments provide aesthetic advantages for front teeth.
3. Digital Impression: Precise digital impressions are taken with a 3D intraoral scanner. No traditional paste impressions needed — greater comfort and accuracy.
4. Crown Production: The zircon crown is manufactured using CAD/CAM technology. Color, shape, and contour are meticulously adjusted.
5. Placement: The crown is tried on the implant. Color match, occlusion (bite), and marginal adaptation are checked. Once approved, it is permanently fixed with special cement.
Care and Lifespan
Implant zircon crowns require care similar to natural teeth. Daily brushing, using dental floss or interdental brushes around the implant, and professional check-ups every 6 months are recommended. With proper care, zircon crowns can last 15-20 years or more. Avoiding biting hard objects (ice, pens, nutshells) extends the crown's lifespan.
